June 2020: Excavation is complete in the east end of the future central river valley. We’ve reached a depth of 7 metres / 23 feet – more than the height of two basketball hoops! We’re now smoothing out the excavation surface in this finished area.
September 2020: The excavation east of Cherry Street. The total depth of excavation is 6-metres /19.5 feet on average, but as deep as 10-metres / 33 feet in some places. The dark horizontal line seen across the excavation is what remains of a breakwater from the 1890s – before the Port Lands were filled in. This photo is one of several we took to document its construction and exact location.
